This cave was excavated in the limestone wall of the left bank of the Danube, more precisely in the area of Cazanelor Mari, Ciucaru Mare and is located at the foot of Ciucaru Mare mountain.
It is the largest endokarst formation in the Defileu area, having three galleries totaling 1661 meters. The active gallery, through which the Ponicova stream still flows, is the one that makes the transition between the land area and the water area. After crossing the Ponicova Gorge, the stream enters the cave, where it dug its way to the Danube in the limestone wall. In addition to this gallery, there are two fossil galleries, one that cannot be visited - the Gallery of Bats, and one that can be visited, the gallery of Concretions. Visitors must wear specific mountain hiking equipment and individual (head) light.
